Hi, I'm Megan

I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago with my husband and I love nutrition, cooking and eating :) I am a certified Nutritional Therapy Consultant. 

I have always loved food and have always been a nutrition nerd. I believe that good food and nutrition go hand in hand. You do not need to deprive yourself of delicious food in order to be healthy. You just have to eat real food! I believe that with health you can achieve anything. You can control your health by what you choose to put into your body.  Every single cell in your body is composed of the foods you eat. Eating real foods can improve your digestion energy, mood, hormone levels and so much more. 

So many diseases become more common while the quality of our food supply diminishes. This is no coincidence. Real food nourishes and heals the body in so many amazing ways. I want to share recipes that are delicious and feed your body all the nutrients it needs. 

Before I was into all things real food... I was a vegetarian. I became a vegetarian after learning about all the factory farming methods, the cruelty to animals and all the synthetic hormones and chemicals that are in most commercially raised meat. I began to notice after a few years of this lifestyle that I was not feeling any healthier and actually feeling worse... 

My body was telling me that I was missing something. I began eating meat again and felt better. Around this time I had heard of the caveman, paleo, primal eating philosophy. This way of eating emphasizes eating humanely raised, healthy animals. Which made my ex-vegetarian self feel better about eating meat. The more I learned about the paleo movement the more it made sense. We shouldn't eat anything from a box, a bag, or a fast "food" window. After eating Paleo, I felt different. In a great way. My cravings that I used to get in between meals disappeared. Now when I eat the right foods I can go long periods in between meals- I will get hungry, but not the shaky, irritable, I need to shove food in my face right now type of hungry. My skin is clearer, my moods are more stable. I don't even have to think about calories or food restriction. When I eat the right foods I am satisfied after a meal and don't crave the sweets that I used to. 

All the recipes at Be Free Kitchen are grain-free, gluten-free and refined- sugar free. I hope it will show people that leading a healthy lifestyle can still be delicious and that cooking paleo will not limit what you eat. Eating paleo has opened my mind to eating new things and inspired me to be more creative in the kitchen.
